In July 2017, the 607 year old historic city of Ahmedabad or Old Ahmedabad, was declared as India's first UNESCO World Heritage City !

Founded by Ahmed Shah in 1411, the present city of Ahmedabad used to be the capital of the then Gujarat Sultanate.

Gandhinagar city, formed in 1960, was built as a planned city and was declared as the capital city of Gujarat in July 1970.
