Dr. Nirav Jamnapara

Dr. Nirav Jamnapara is a materials scientist and technology commercialization professional with more than 22 years of experience. Borne in Vadodara (Baroda), Gujarat, He did his schooling from Baroda and Bachelor of Engineering (B.E) in Metallurgy from the Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda in the year 2000. Thereafter he worked in steel industry for 2 years in Ahmedabad as engineer.        
He joined the Institute for Plasma Research in 2002 as Engineer - SC and handled the technology commercialization portfolio of the Facilitation Centre for Industrial Plasma Technologies (FCIPT), Gandhinagar. Under this portfolio, he facilitated execution of more than 82 externally sponsored projects worth Rs. 30 Crores, several technology transfer agreements with industry and has established collaborations with small to large organizations at national and international levels. He led several projects as Principal investigator/Project Manager and has also contributed as team member.
       
In 2008 he joined the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IIT Bombay) for an integrated PhD programme in Metallurgical Engineering and Materials Science. He completed his PhD on the topic "Development of aluminide coatings on P91 steel for Pb-Li environment in fusion reactors" in 2013. He was awarded Young Researcher Award by Society of Surface Protective Coatings India (SSPC India) in Oct 2015.

Since 2017, Dr. Jamnapara has been taking care of the Projects & Technology Transfer Section of the Institute and has been facilitating all external collaborations and supporting all Patenting & IP activities. Dr. Jamnapara is also active as a faculty of the Homi Bhabha National Institute (HBNI) and has supervised 3 PhD students and over 5 post-doctoral fellows. He has also mentored/guided more than 45+ PG and UG students. Dr. Jamnapara has published several publications, book chapters and patents. He is the recipient of the Fellow Award of the ASM International USA in 2023 in recognition of his contributions to plasma processing of materials.

He has also been instrumental in establishing the Atal Incubation Centre of IPR which is now functional as a section 8 company (AIC - IPR Plasmatech Innovation Foundation). This AIC shall support deeptech startups using plasma and allied technologies developed at IPR.  
Dr. Nirav Jamnapara took charge of the Outreach Division in June 2024.
