Mr. Gattu Ramesh Babu is a senior physicist and the primary Coordinator for Academic Visits at the Institute for Plasma Research (IPR). With a career at IPR spanning over 25 years, he combines deep technical expertise in fusion engineering with a passion for scientific communication and institutional automation.

Academic Excellence & Technical Foundation
A double Gold Medalist in both B.Sc. and M.Sc. (Physics) from Osmania University, Hyderabad, Mr. Gattu joined IPR in 1999 following the completion of the prestigious Technical Training Program (TTP-6). His early career was defined by his contributions to the SST-1 Vacuum Division and the First Wall Division, where he specialized in:

Thermal & Vacuum Systems: Managing temperature data acquisition for plasma-facing components, vacuum baking, and helium leak testing.

Instrumentation & Metrology: Developing SCADA-based data acquisition, 3-axis Hall sensor magnetic field mapping for the ADITYA tokamak, and photogrammetry-based metrology.

Computational Physics: Development of electromagnetic field codes using Python.

Leadership in Outreach & Digital Infrastructure
Since joining the Outreach Division in December 2021, Mr. Gattu has been the driving force behind the modernization of the IPR visitor experience. His current responsibilities include:

Academic Program Coordination: Leading the institutional SOP for academic visits, ensuring a safe and educational experience for thousands of students annually.

Digital Transformation: Developing and maintaining the Outreach Division server and the official IPR Outreach webpage.

Exhibit Development: Designing new plasma-based models and educational resource materials.

Science Communication: Delivering technical talks, conducting science camps, and hosting the division’s signature MCQ quiz competitions.

Institutional Contribution & Personal Interests

Mr. Gattu is known within the institute for his commitment to administrative efficiency, utilizing his expertise in MS Excel Macro development to automate complex reporting. He is an active leader in national initiatives like the Hindi Pakhwada and Swachhata Pakhwada.

Outside of his scientific endeavors, he is a vivid barefoot ultra-marathoner, a hobby that reflects the same discipline and endurance he brings to his professional role at IPR.
