Similarity/Plagiarism Checking



IPR Library offers Similarity Checking Service using a ‘iThenticate” tool to the affiliated users of IPR. iThenticate is a plagiarism detection tool which allows researchers to compare their contents with expansive content database for any potential similarity and to ensure originality prior to publication. IPR Library has a license to the tool.


To get the similarity/plagiarism checking and generating similarity index, please note the following:


For Manuscripts, including Internal Research /Technical Reports/Journal publications/Conference papers/extended abstracts, please send your manuscript in PDF or DOCX file format to library@ipr.res.in


For M.Sc./M. Tech dissertations the author has to send an email to library@ipr.res.in requesting to schedule a timeslot to perform the similarity check of their dissertation at the library


For Ph.D Thesis, the research scholar/author has to send an email request to library@ipr.res.in  requesting access to the plagiarism software and provide login credential to perform similarity check by themselves under the observation of their respective guide.


It is mandatory to perform similarity check for all publications before publishing and should follow the UGC guidelines mentioned in the Gazette of India: Extraordinary [Part III-Section 4], No. 287, UGC, New Delhi, 2018. The similarity checks for plagiarism shall exclude the following:

i. All quoted work reproduced with all necessary permission and/or attribution.

ii. All references, bibliography, table of content, preface and acknowledgements.

iii. All generic terms, laws, standard symbols and standards equations.

iv. The research work carried out by the student, faculty, researcher and staff shall be based on original ideas, which shall include abstract, summary, hypothesis, observations, results, conclusions and recommendations only and shall not have any similarities. It shall exclude a common knowledge or coincidental terms, up to fourteen (14) consecutive words.
